The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Mohamed Murad Mutahar is a businessman and is the CEO of (BAM) Bin Al Mutahar for Trading & Oil/Gas Services in Yemen (www.binalmutahar.com), providing services to a broad range of markets including energy and power, marine, and information technology.
Mohamed Murad’s belief that skillful and enthusiastic youth will pave the way to a unique, innovative, and productive society is what led him to lay the foundations of one of Yemen’s most known civil society organizations, Hemmat Shabab Foundation for Development (www.hemmatshabab.org). Recognized locally and nationally, Mohamed Murad works as a force for justice and community building. Under his leadership, Hemmat Shabab benefits the community by empowering youth and offering services to low-income families, among other socially responsible objectives.
Mohamed Murad serves on the Board of Directors of the Yemeni Business Club (www.ybc-yemen.com), an organization that functions as main NGO for the Yemeni Private Sector. Dr. Saib Sallam Thabet

Owner and Founder of Sallam Pharm Trading – International Consultant

Entrepreneur, strategic thinker, visionary, innovator, and educator are all words, which accurately describe Dr. Saib Sallam Thabet. Born in Taiz, Yemen, and educated in the United States, Dr. Thabet has a dual passion for entrepreneurship and knowledge.

Fluently bilingual in English and Arabic, and holding a Doctorate in Business Administration: Strategic Management from the U.S. International University in San Diego. Additionally Dr. Thabet holds an MBA, a B.S. and a B.A. in Economics. These skills, credentials, an experience have made him a conduit for the exchange of entrepreneurial ideas between his native Yemen, across the Arab World, and the west.

After graduating with a degree in Economics, from the University of Southern California in 1982, he turned his attention to business. Dr. Thabet became the financial controller for the Taiz Mareb Hotel in Yemen, before becoming the Deputy General Manager, Finance, at Sana’a Concrete Ready Mix. In 1997 after having worked for a variety of companies and government agencies he founded Sallam Pharm Trading. He has worked as a consultant for leading multinationals, including Proctor and Gamble.

Dr. Thabet has also carried his passion for entrepreneurship over to his academic career. He lead a team responsible for the founding of the Centre of Business Administration for Graduate studies, as well as the MBA and E-MBA programs at Sana’a University, in Sana’a, Yemen. He also played a key role in the creation of a series of new course work teaching management to non-management disciplines like Engineering and Information technology at Taiz University.

I'm a qualified MCSA 2003 Infrastructure Analyst with extensive experience in Windows NT/2000/2003, Networking, AD Infrastructures, Exchange 5.5 to 2003, ISA 2004& 2006, Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway and Microsoft Virtual Server, VMware ESX Server, Microsoft Virtual Server and Cisco Network Infrastructures, along with enterprise data backup management of NAS and SAN Devices ,using Tape Libraries along with VERITAS NetBackup Enterprise in a Shared Storage. I have set up many Network and Server Performance Monitoring systems using SNMP with the likes of HP Systems Insight Manager.
I have worked extensively with HP/Compaq Reliant Servers and Cisco Switched and Routed. I have also Designed and implemented VMware infrastructures for test environments and server consolidation projects. I have also scripted using VBScript and Visual Basic Express for Server Administration and Logon Scripts.

Nader is a holder of a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Kwansei Gakuin University in Osaka, Japan, and is currently a PhD student of Advanced Management at the same university. He is a results-oriented professional, with more than nine years of expertise gained from working with different projects at several multinational organizations such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC)–World Bank Group, PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PwC), and others. Nader coordinated for different developmental projects at IFC, most importantly, the Business Edge Management Training Program (BE). At BE Program, he supervised and coordinated for hundreds of BE training programs, workshops, and events around Yemen (in Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Hodiedah, Mukalla, and others) that were delivered through several IFC local training partners over a period of 4 years to more than 10,000 individual trainees (SME owners, employees, university graduates, and youth).
